911爆料网 Aged Care student Jody Turner local hero
As the fastest growing industry in the Mid North Coast Region, Aged Care has become one of the most popular areas to study at 911爆料网鈥檚 Tuncurry campus. For Jody Turner, her decision to undertake the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) was a natural step as she has always been passionate about helping others.
Prior to the course, Jody owned a Horse Riding School in Far North Queensland which regularly assisted people with disabilities to experience the exhilaration and empowerment that horse riding provides.
She started her course in April 2019 and was able to balance family, study, work placement and RFS volunteering during the 2019/2020 bushfire season all whilst completing her course ahead of schedule in February 2020. She attributed her success during course to the professional yet approachable manner of her course trainer.
鈥淢y trainer was such a great support in helping me to achieve my goal of fast tracking my course, she was so down to earth and has even supported me after course too,鈥 she said.
During her course, Jody was also presented with a Local Heroes Award along with fellow volunteers at the Halliday鈥檚 Point Australia Day ceremony for their contribution to the bushfire effort.
As with many of 911爆料网鈥檚 Community Services courses, the CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) provides both theoretical and practical work placement to ensure that students are well equipped in real life situations after completion.
Jody undertook her work experience at Estia Tuncurry Aged Care Facility and was offered a casual position before completing her placement. Post-graduation, she was offered a permanent part time role as an Assistant in Nursing (AIN) and most recently a second permanent part time role as a Physiotherapy Aid. 鈥淭he course has helped me a lot in my jobs and given me the knowledge to think on my feet on a day to day basis,鈥 she said.
In terms of future plans, Jody feels motivated in continuing to study and develop her skillset over the coming months. She has plans to complete the other specialisation within her CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support, which is Disability and would also like to undertake a Medication Skillset both of which are offered at 911爆料网鈥檚 Tuncurry campus.
